Rest, Refuel, & Reset - A Month of Prosperity through Doing Less Not Striving for More

What a month. January has been the best month I've had in a LONG time. Why? Because I'm focusing on doing only what God wants me to do in my current season.

I struggle with wanting to do too much too fast. It's like I get the vision and immediately want to make it happen.

But this is not how God operates. Often, He gives us a glimpse - an idea, and then prepares us step-by-step over a period of time to fulfill that dream.

January 2026 has been different for numerous reasons.

  1. I fasted from Social Media.

I wasn't excited when I felt the nudge to do this mainly because I had set a goal to learn how to strategically post in 2026. I remember thinking, "how can I learn strategy if I'm not posting, or researching on social media?"

Ha! What a foolish thing to say. Taking a break from social media actually freed up my mental, emotional, and spiritual load so that I could hear more clearly from God, create more effective content, and spend time in His presence rather than on a device.

Now I have more direction, purpose, and clear vision for posting and reaching people. How awesome is that!

I also realized that obeying God and sitting in His presence means more to Him than doing effective things for Him. If I first don't get my daily bread and climb the mountain like Moses did and wait on the Lord's provision, then I can't serve the people I'm called to reach in the best way possible.

  2. I slowed down, stopped panic-producing, and honed in on the few things I felt God was calling me to focus on.

It can be so easy to look at what others are doing, producing, and creating and think, "hey maybe I should try that." By clearing my headspace and sitting down with the Lord I was able to get clear direction on what things He wants me to do in this current season.

I think it's important we do this periodically throughout the year so that we know we're in alignment with His will.

Too often I would see something that worked for one person and think that I should also be doing that. NO. We are each called to do different and unique tasks. Do not cause yourself stress and anxiety by looking in another person's lane and trying to do what they're doing. It won't work. God has called you to fulfill certain agendas. Remain faithful in those areas.

  3. I followed peace.

Anything that caused stress, anxiety or felt burdensome I trashed. It doesn't mean I won't eventually do those things, but for right now, they aren't what I'm meant to focus on.

At the end of 2025, God spoke very clearly to Briston and I to focus on what works and let go of the rest. For Briston this meant letting go of business ideas and mastering our Outlast events.

For me, this meant throwing out extra junk that sounded good, but took too much of my time.

Things I threw out:

Things I kept:

Making YouTube Videos

Uploading podcast episodes to Apple Podcasts and Spotify only

Uploading podcast episodes to YouTube

Writing weekly blog posts

Working for Texas Outlaw

Sending monthly newsletters

Taking on too much freelance work

Working on my YA Fantasy Novel & The Bible Devo Collection

Publishing a children's book this summer (postponing it to 2027)

Starting my Doctorate in English

Placing my desire to start a Foundation on hold

Building a web and graphic design company for debut Christian authors to help build their brands

Posting on social media constantly

Spending more time playing with Bryleigh and less time on the computer

Running and fitness

For me to know what to keep and what to throw out, I simply relied on peace. If something felt overwhelming or chaotic, I laid it down. I only work on the things I feel I can handle in this season.

  1. I spent more time resting & less time producing.

I am not good at resting. If I'm not doing something, I will try to find a task to complete. This is not healthy, and this month has revealed that.

With preparing to be a mom of two, I'm realizing the amount of energy and time I need to set aside for my family. Being married to a business owner and raising two young girls is not easy, and God does not want me to serve in these areas exhausted, burnt out, and overstimulated. How can I best serve them if my focus is on everything else? I can't.

Moving forward, I want to schedule time to work on projects and use the rest of my day to serve my family. God has helped me see the joy in this season of life, and I want to appreciate it.

  2. I woke up earlier, prioritized projects, and spent less time scrolling.

This month has been so productive.

    - I finished my YA Fantasy Novel edits and sent in a proposal.

    - I created a fun 30-Day Challenge, Training in Righteousness, that will launch in March.

    - I posted daily podcast episodes for The Entrepreneur's Wife (and will continue for the remainder of this year).

    - I created a branding guide for my personal brand, writing, and podcast to help me narrow down who I'm trying to help and why.

    - I established a business idea for my graphic and web design services called Eternity, designing Christian author brands for Kingdom impact, where I offer web design, graphic and print/promotional design, and book merch to debut Christian authors. (Launching later this Spring)

How am I able to do this?

    1. Schedule it in. For most of the month, I've been waking up at 5-5:30 am. I work until 7:30-8 am (or until Bryleight wakes up), eat breakfast, spend time with her, and then continue working during her nap time (10:30-11:30 am).

    2. Focus on 1 small task per day. I used to get overwhelmed and not work on things because of how much I knew needed to be done. This month, I've been focusing on being faithful with what God is asking me to do. This means doing one little thing each day. It's easier to manage when you only focus on 1 task instead of looking at the big picture.

It feels so nice to not be burdened by all these extra tasks. I am at peace and excited to proceed with this mentality moving forward.

If you struggle with doing too much, taking on too many things, or are exhausted and burnt out, please follow these steps. They have changed my life and helped me grow closer to God as I start this new year.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know your thoughts.

God Bless!
